Top 5 Dog Photography Locations in LA County, California

Hermosa Beach Greenbelt

The Hermosa Beach Greenbelt has so much to offer for dog photography, and dog walking as well. There are several different types of trees and plants along the greenbelt that make for a great variety of photos. There are also several benches nested within the bushes and trees that I love putting dogs and their people on for posed shots.

You would think that such a pretty trail would be packed with people, but that isn't the case at all. There's usually a low flow of people, which gives us plenty of space to get action shots right in the middle of the trail, and family portraits under my favorite overhanging trees on the greenbelt.

Now let's talk about the dogs' experience in this location. They absolutely love it! There are lots of fun smells for them to check out and things to see. It shines through in the photos that the dogs are enjoying themselves, which makes this location even better!

King Harbor Redondo Beach

If you love the nautical look, this is the location for you! There are numerous things that I love about photo sessions at King Harbor.

There are a variety of spots to get different photos - in front of the boats in the harbor, on beautiful rocks, in front of a cute cafe with twinkle lights and succulents, overlooking the harbor at sunset, and my favorite being in front of a beautiful tree hanging over the pathway next to the boat docks.

Perhaps the best thing about this location, though, is that we will only see a handful of other people and maybe one or two other dogs, making this one of my top location choices for reactive dogs.

Palos Verdes Cliffs

The trails area near the Point Vicente Lighthouse along the Palos Verdes Cliffs is a great location for dog photography, with dirt trails lined by wooden fencing and coastal bushes that create picturesque paths that photograph beautifully. These trails are perfect for capturing action shots of dogs, even dogs that have a hard time focusing on running straight toward the camera - the fencing and bushes that line the trails only allow for dogs to run straight at the camera. The peaceful ambiance of this setting, with minimal distractions, allows dogs and their people to relax and enjoy themselves, resulting in wonderful candid photos.

In addition to the scenic trails, the Palos Verdes Cliffs boast stunning ocean views, particularly breathtaking at sunset. The vast expanse of the ocean, framed by the cliffs, provides a dramatic and serene backdrop. This location combines natural elements and stunning vistas, making it an ideal spot for memorable dog photography sessions.

Long Beach Colorado Lagoon

Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach has a little bit of everything all in one place and is truly amazing! There's a restaurant with a rustic wooden wall and railing beautiful for getting photos in front of, a park with green grass and big, beautiful trees perfect for playful shots of dogs, a lagoon with a large beach making it great for action, a wooden dock crossing the lagoon picture perfect for photos of dogs and their people, and a dirt trail lined by coastal bushes with a beautiful sunset view overlooking the lagoon.

This location makes for a wonderful photography experience for any dog. The large size of this area allows for plenty of space away from others where dogs and their people can feel at ease, making this location doable even for reactive and nervous dogs.

In addition to its diverse scenery, Colorado Lagoon offers a tranquil environment that sets the stage for capturing authentic moments. The blend of natural and man-made features ensures a variety of backgrounds, making each photo session unique and fun!

Hermosa Beach Pier Area

The Hermosa Beach pier area provides a fun mixture of beachy and urban vibes. There is a hidden gem of a little park right on the strand just steps away from the Hermosa Beach pier called Nobel Park. This little park is magical during golden hour and packed with tons of photographable spots. It even allows for great action shots of dogs running down the grassy slopes in the park.

Just steps away from the park is the Hermosa Beach pier, and next to the pier is an elevated area that is perfect for getting silhouette photos of dogs during sunset, as well as photos of dogs with their whole family. The Hermosa Beach Pier area also has lights that hang from side to side over the walkway between the restaurants that line the area. This spot is a photographer's dream for getting photos right after sunset and is why many people choose this location. If you love the look of soft twinkling lights, then you will love this location.
